Artis O. Peavey is a fictional character in the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe written by author Fannie Flagg.
He was one of the four children of Onzel and Big George, both residents of Troutville (a shacktown near Whistle Stop, Alabama). He was one of a pair of twins, along with his brother Jasper; they were born on June 2, 1917. Along with Jasper, Artis had another brother, Wonderful Counselor (also known as Willie Boy), and a sister, Naughty Bird.
Biography
From his birth, Artis was always different from his twin brother. Physically, they were very different, as Jasper was born with very pale skin and Artis was "black as coal". As well, Artis was born with blue gums, which caused anxiety from his grandmother Sipsey, who felt that the miscolored gums were an omen of ill tidings.
At the age of 10, Artis exerted his first real violent behaviour. He stabbed his brother Jasper in the arm five times with a penknife, which would demand immediate medical attention. Afterward, by way of apology, he said "I knowed I shouldn'ta done it . . . but it felt so good, I jes couldn't stop."
When Sipsey killed Frank Bennett, Artis was told to stay in a shed with the body, until the adults were ready to deal with it. During the night, Artis stabbed the corpse multiple times, which gave him a feeling of superiority over whites who were harassing him. He would smile to himself and reflect that he had stabbed one of them already.
As soon as he was able, Artis moved from Whistle Stop to nearby Birmingham. He instantly felt at home. The urban lifestyle suited him much better than did the small town of Whistle Stop. From that point on, he was a city boy. During his life, he had been married more than once and jailed at least one time.
Artis' brother Willie Boy served in the army during World War II, but Willie Boy died as a result of a bar fight with another coloured American, Winston Lewis. After attending his brother's funeral, Artis murdered Lewis and cut out his heart.
The cause of his first jail time was the fact that he pulled a knife when in the presence of two government employees, after an altercation regarding a dog. They were dogcatchers, and the reason he drew his switchblade was that they were about to take the dog of one of his friends. They had tied up the dog, and he used his knife to cut the rope. As he was watching the dog run, the dogcatchers beat him over the back of the head. After a perfunctory trial, Artis was sentenced to ten years in prison, but Idgie and Grady (two other residents of Whistle Stop and friends of the family) managed to get him out after six months, due to Grady's position as sheriff of Whistle Stop.
This experience seemed to make a lasting impression on Artis, and he promised the sheriff he would stay out of trouble. He went straight home after being released and was greeted by a loving wife. This experience of jail was to affect him for the rest of his life.
Later, in an apartment store, Artis met his niece Clarissa (Jasper's daughter who was light-skinned enough to pass off as white) and grabbed her arm. He was promptly thrown out for "harassing a white woman".
When Artis was an old man, he lived in a run-down hotel, being taken care of by one of the many women in his life. He had become senile and no longer took notice of the world around him. He spent his days wandering throughout his own mind, reliving all his past, good memories. He died while sitting on a sofa in the lobby, laughing and remembering.

Hexagradior (from Greek hexa - six and Latin gradis - step) is a book of mystical exercises and instructions for attaining occult abilities. Practices described in it are vaguely reminescent of those given by Franz Bardon in his "Initiation into Hermetics" and those used by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky of the Theosophical Society, but they follow the same pradigm, namely that occult abilities are to be reached through practice as opposed to the grimoire approach of prayer, fasting, magic formulas and religious devotion.
Because of the fact that both Bardon and Blavatsky originated from and had liasions in Austro-Hungarian Empire, while the fragments of Hexagradior text have been reported in countries that formed said empire, many believe that the Hexagradior may have originated in Austro-Hungarian Empire approximately at the time of Bardon and Blavatsky. This presumption is further strenghtened by the fact that none of the said fragments are older than early twentieth century and that some exercises described resemble those from Rosicrucian Monographs, both of which fit the same time frame.
Some elements of the Hexagradior exercises, particularly the position of hands in the first exercise,
seem identical with some sacred gestures used in Ancient Egypt and especially the symbol for "Ka", the "Life Force" from Ancient Egyptian soul concept. This is usually interpreted as survival or at least rediscovery of some old occult techniques that have contemporary forms in Psionics and Psi balls.
The first exercise described in Hexagradior is frequently discussed because it regularly causes a sensation of pushing or pulling in the palms, which has not been scientifically explained so far. The book is also known for being notoriously hard to obtain which is unusual but not unprecedented since Picatrix was not available is English until the end of 20th century while some famous titles like "Le Grand Albert", "Le Petit Albert", "Le Vraie Magie Noire" and others have never been translated into English so far.

"Consciousness causes collapse" is the name given to a non-scientific and generally disputed interpretation of quantum mechanics according to which observation by a conscious observer is causally associated with wave function collapse. Treatments of the topic outside of the mainstream scientific community and in popular culture have been widely criticized as pseudoscience.
The interpretation
This interpretation attributes the process of wave function collapse (directly, indirectly, or even partially) to consciousness itself. However, proponents cannot explain which things have sufficient consciousness to collapse the wave function ("Was the wave function waiting to jump for thousands of millions of years
until a single-celled living creature appeared? Or did it have to wait a little
longer for some highly qualified measurer - with a PhD?"). It is also not clear whether measuring devices might also be considered conscious.
Mysticism, New Age and New Thought belief
It has been claimed that the idea meshes well with ancient Eastern mysticism and philosophy, including that of Hinduism, Taoism, and Buddhism which includes a belief in the transitory, interconnected nature of all things and the illusion of separation of thought and existence. This is one of the major themes of Fritjof Capra's The Tao of Physics. It also meshes well with the views of the New Thought Movement.
The view is also presented in the popular and controversial documentaries ' and The Secret, alongside some unrelated biological discussions, and is a major plot point in Greg Egan's novel Quarantine, as well as playing a significant role in Charlie Stross's novel The Atrocity Archives.
Objections from physicists
In general, physicists regard this idea as a non-scientific or pseudoscientific concept, pointing out that it is experimentally unfalsifiable and that it introduces unnecessary elements into physics, rather than .
Wim De Muynck comments that
The human observer is as dispensable in quantum mechanics as he (short for `he or she') is in classical mechanics. He sees only the macroscopic parts of his measuring instruments. In present-day practice of the physical science of the microscopic domain human observation is largely restricted to the tables and graphs that have been printed on the basis of data obtained by the scientists computer from a measuring instrument of which the measurement results are sent to the computer without any human interference.
An influence like the reduction (collapse) of the wave packet, allegedly exerted by a human observer on a microscopic object by means of observation, would be equally miraculous as killing a fly by just looking at ones fly swatter.
Recent study of quantum decoherence casts new light onto the problem by reducing the importance of the "macroscopic observer" originally introduced in the language of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum theory. Modern scientific discourse has evolved to try to quantify how quantum systems decohere due to their interactions with the surroundings. In this manner a unified view of all quantum interactions can be developed that treats neighboring quantum systems, thermal baths and the measurement apparatus on the same footing.
