Yerf is an online art gallery dedicated to the collection of PG-rated (or tamer) furry art. It was originally called the Squeaky Clean Furry Archive, but changed ownership and names. The name is supposedly a vocalization made by foxes, a popular subject for furry artists. The site was originally created as a "clean" alternative to archives such as the VCL, which does not place content restrictions on its artists.
In January 2005, the Yerf server suffered a massive hard drive failure - attempts at data recovery failed due to an inoperable head crash, although over $2,500 was raised to cover potential costs in case it could be repaired. The site is down as of 26 January 2005 and is expected to remain that way for a while - no backups were made of the server prior to its failure, including the gallery software. Most of the art available before the crash can be viewed at archive.org.
As of the end of February 2005, all art that was on the archive has been recovered (from fans who had cached copies of the archive), caption data as of approximately 2003 has been recovered (from archive.org), and a rewrite of the image-serving code is underway.
Sorcerer GNU/Linux is a Linux distribution.
The distinctive feature of Sorcerer is the fact that it's based exclusively on source code packages. While other operating systems generally make use of a package that contains pre-compiled (executable) programs, Sorcerer GNU/Linux packages compile the source code on the machine at install time.
This method of package installation has many advantages, including increased speed due to compilation optimization for the host's architecture, and easier security scanning of the installed software. The package management system keeps track of updates to packages at the home page of each package, so that new versions can be downloaded and installed as they become available. It also tracks library dependencies, so if a library file is updated, all binaries that depend on that library can be recompiled. Users can add new packages to the packaging system on their local box by creating a "spell" or configuration file for it, and can submit the new spell for inclusion in the general distribution.
One disadvantage is the high minimum system requirements. As of January 2002, these included 256MB RAM and 1GB of swap space. This is suggested because compiling the entire system from scratch consumes large amounts of system resources.
Sorcerer has two forks: Lunar Linux, Source Mage
