Rated an EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, this violent vortex occurred as part of a multi-day regional tornado outbreak stretching across the Midwest and the Southern United States. While the broader storm system inflicted widespread destruction, the tornado remains a focal point for researchers and severe weather enthusiasts. It served as a rare, textbook example of an intense satellite tornado out-intensifying its massive parent storm. Despite packing peak estimated winds of 170 miles per hour, the tornado resulted in zero fatalities and zero injuries due to striking a sparsely populated area and excellent early warnings.
