Tiit Ojasoo (born 28 August 1977) is an Estonian theatre director, stage pedagogue and academic. He co-founded and served as an artistic leader of Theatre NO99, and since 2022 has been a professor of dramatic art at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
Working closely with the artist and director Ene-Liis Semper, Ojasoo became associated with politically engaged, postdramatic theatre that was influential in 21st-century Estonia. Scholars of Estonian theatre have described NO99 as one of the country's most acclaimed theatre companies and as an important participant in Estonia's theatrical public sphere. Its 2010 project Unified Estonia Assembly drew 7,200 people and has been described as one of the largest theatre events in modern European theatre history.
Under the artistic leadership of Ojasoo and Semper, NO99 toured widely in Europe and appeared in the main programme of the Festival d'Avignon in 2015. Ojasoo has received the Estonian state cultural award and the Order of the White Star, 3rd Class, and in 2024 shared the Estonian Theatre Union's directing award for Macbeth.
Heldur Niit (9 September 1928 – 21 October 2010) was an Estonian folklorist, literary scholar and editor. After studying folklore at the University of Tartu, he worked at the Institute of Language and Literature, in the editorial office of Eesti nõukogude entsüklopeedia (ENE), and from 1972 to 2007 at the journal Keel ja Kirjandus. His scholarship ranged across folkloristics, literary history, book history and textual criticism, and he was especially associated with work on Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald, Mihkel Veske, Oskar Luts and Estonian-Finnish literary contacts.
Urmas Nemvalts (born 4 August 1968) is an Estonian caricaturist, editorial cartoonist, comics artist, illustrator and children's writer. He has worked for the daily newspaper Postimees since 1994 and is best known as the creator of the comic strip Mürakarud. In addition to his newspaper work, he has illustrated numerous books and published children's books of his own. He received the Oskar Lutsu Huumor Prize in 1999 and the Order of the White Star, 5th Class, in 2015.
Arne Mikk (born 18 April 1934) is an Estonian stage director, theatre manager and teacher who has been closely associated with the Estonian National Opera since the 1950s. After beginning there as a chorus singer, he later served as literary manager, assistant director, director, principal stage director and artistic director, and has been credited with more than sixty music-theatre productions. From 2008 to 2024 he was the artistic director of the Saaremaa Opera Days.
