Neltharion the Earth Warder, later called Deathwing the Destroyer, is a fictional character in the Warcraft universe — a fictional universe in which a series of games and books are set. First seen in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal
Biography
In the game series Warcraft, Neltharion the Earth Warder was one of the Dragon Aspects created to defend Kalimdor. He was empowered by the Titan Khaz'goroth to protect the land.
Neltharion was Alexstrasza's greatest supporter and generally regarded as a powerful ally to the other dragonflights. However, at some point during the War of the Ancients the great-hearted Neltharion was driven mad, by the Old Gods in their plot to return to Azeroth, and began to plot against his brethren. In a bid for power, Neltharion suggested the use of an artifact he created: the Dragon Soul. According to plan, the Dragon Soul would combat the invading Burning Legion. The Dragon Soul would later be called Demon Soul, as it was referred to as no better than the Demonic Burning Legion. Each Dragon Aspect offered over a portion of their power to the Demon Soul and were promised that it would be used to the destroy the marauding army.
Neltharion, however, betrayed his allies and used the power of the Demon Soul against them. Around this time, goblin engineers under his control welded adamantium plates to Deathwing's scaly hide, a terribly painful process for the dragon, but one of necessity to keep his weakened body from tearing itself apart with the awesome powers he wielded. Weakened and broken, the dragonflights were forced to retreat from the battle leaving the Night Elves to fend for themselves against the Burning Legion. Though the invasion was ultimately halted, Neltharion's treachery scarred the remaining dragons for the rest of their lives. Alexstrasza was deeply tormented by her friend's betrayal, and Malygos, who had supported the use of the Demon Soul from the beginning, lost nearly all of his blue dragonflight because of it, the grief slowly driving him mad.
Though the Burning Legion was ultimately halted, the war cost Neltharion, now known as Deathwing, the loss of nearly every Black Dragon in the world. Additionally, the Demon Soul which he had created would no longer respond to his commands. When the orcish horde invaded Azeroth, he found new pawns with which to facilitate his rise to power. He entered into an alliance with Ner'zhul and even traveled to Draenor where he lived for many years, consolidating his power.
Years later during the Second War on Azeroth, Deathwing managed to use the Demon Soul once more through his orc puppet, Nekros Skullcrusher. With it, he imprisoned Alexstrasza within the former dwarven city of Grim Batol. There he forced breedings with many other captured Red Dragons and used them in the war against the Alliance. When victory was assured, Deathwing would assume his role as tyrant of Azeroth. The dragon was also fond of assuming a human guise in the form of Lord Prestor, a dignitary with close ties to Alterac. With this shell, he would meddle in the affairs of Lordaeron and put great strain on the human alliance. While in the guise of Lord Prestor, Deathwing had absolute control over his pawn's minds. In general, he was well-liked by the nobles of Lordaeron, especially King Terenas who appointed him as ruler of Alterac. Above all, Deathwing's agenda was always domination and to repopulate his ravaged Black dragonflight.
However, Deathwing's plans were foiled by the mage Rhonin and Korialstrasz, a consort of the Dragonqueen, who managed to wrest the Demon Soul from Nekros and free Alexstrasza. The resulting battle, in which each of the four Dragon Aspects had their power returned to them, through Rhonin using the Scale of Neltharion to destroy the Demon Soul and their power inside it returning to its former owners, forced Deathwing to give ground before them and flee. His current fate is unknown although the conniving dragon has been presumed dead before, only to resurface with a vengeance in time. Many believe he is either in hiding, or he is being held captive by the other Dragonflights in an attempt to contain his evil.
Today, Neltharion's eldest brood, his daughter Onyxia, and son Nefarian continue their father's insidious work. Onyxia breeds in Dustwallow Marsh while infiltrating Stormwind's nobility as Lady Katrana Prestor, an advisor to the child king Anduin Wrynn. Nefarian inhabits Blackrock Spire, fighting against Ragnaros for domination of the mountain, and conducting vile experiments attempting to create a new breed of dragon with the Chromatic dragonflight.
Remnants of the Black Dragonflight can be found in Vortex Pinnacle in Blade's Edge Mountains. It seems these dragons seek revenge on Gruul The Dragonkiller for the slaughter of so many of their brothers and sister. Obsidia, Insidion, Rivendark, and Furywing fly above the Blade's Edge Plateaus, guarding their respective perches. The elusive Hemathion also flies in these areas.
Role in Warcraft II Expansion
In the real-time strategy game Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal Neltharion (Deathwing) appears playable as one of the orcish heroes. He is first met with his brood on Blackrock Spire. He was last seen defending Draenor the home of the orcs when it exploded. This role comes into conflict with the novel, 'Day of the Dragon'.

Magna Medivh, typically referred to simply as Medivh, is a fictional character in the Warcraft universe. He was the last of an order known as the Guardians of Tirisfal of the World of Azeroth. "Medivh" means "keeper of secrets" in the Quel'dorei (High Elven) language. Medivh was the successor of the previous guardian . In Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, he was voiced by Michael Bell, and Cam Clarke in World of Warcraft.
Backstory
Medivh is the son of the great sorceress and Guardian of Tirisfal, , and the court conjurer and king's adviser, Nielas Aran. Unknowingly, Aegwynn had passed the spirit of Sargeras, whom she had earlier defeated, on to Medivh before he was even born.
Medivh aged to be a strong boy and, because of his Tirisfalin blood, a gifted magician. He was well liked by the people of Azeroth and enjoyed adventuring with his two friends: Llane, the prince of Azeroth, and Anduin Lothar, one of the last descendants of the Arathi bloodline.
At the age of fourteen, the latent powers of the spirit of Sargeras became active, and clashed with his mother's legacy of the Guardian of Tirisfal, both within Medivh, causing the young boy to fall into a comatose state. Upon his awakening many years later, he found himself to have reached adulthood and to have become a very powerful mage. He also found that his friends, Llane and Lothar, had become the regents of Azeroth. Despite the power of the Guardian, Sargeras's spirit slowly took control of Medivh's actions, eventually leading up to the opening of the Dark Portal with the help of Gul'dan and the bringing forth of the Orcs from Draenor into Azeroth. Sargeras' power grew so strong in Medivh, that he actually challenged and defeated his mother .
Medivh resided in the tower Karazhan, that is like an hour glass to time. People visiting within the tower might have seen visions of time that had become stuck within the tower and resided there forever (Until Medivh withdrew all of the stuck visions from the tower). Karazhan is in the middle of a large crater that was created during a postmagical explosion. The magic around the area then became stuck and disoriented. Medivh's apprentice, Khadgar, created a spell to be able to control the visions and thus found out about Medivh and the opening of the Dark Portal.
For the next six years, skirmishes between the Humans and the Orcs broke out in and around the Kingdom of Azeroth. Learning that Medivh was responsible for the Dark Portal, Sir Lothar, putting aside old friendships for his duty as the lieutenant-at-arms of King Llane, stormed Medivh's stronghold of Karazhan with the help of Medivh's apprentice, Khadgar. Ultimately, Medivh's body was destroyed, but because of his death, Sargeras's spirit was cast into the abyss, known as the Twisting Nether, while the virtuous spirit of Medivh was allowed to live on, wandering the astral plane. Moments before his death, Gul'dan created a telepathic link into Medivh's mind to try and figure out the location of the Tomb of Sargeras. Medivh's death caused a mental backlash that put Gul'dan in a coma for months.
Role in Warcraft III
Years later, Medivh was reborn, free of the spirit of Sargeras, and strived to warn the mortal races of the impending onslaught of demons. He first reached the leader Thrall of the Horde, under the guise of a mysterious prophet, and convinced him that only sailing to Kalimdor, the land in the west, will ensure their survival.
He then approached the humans of Lordaeron, still disguised as the prophet, and gave warnings of the mighty disaster that was to come.
None paid Medivh heed, save for Jaina Proudmoore, the daughter of Admiral Proudmoore. At the time, she was a mage in training by the Kirin Tor. Having been suitably impressed by his urgency, she travelled to Kalimdor with her human expedition and met the orcs led by Thrall. Immediately regarding the other as a threat, the two factions clashed in the manner that had typified their relationship for modern history.
In a defining moment, Thrall and Jaina met with Medivh deep within Stonetalon Peak, where Medivh explained the severity of the situation: "For the sake of all who live, humanity must join forces with the Horde." Upon realizing this, they made a treaty, and sought to fortify themselves against the Burning Legion. Although they initially drew the ire of the immortal guardians of the forests of Ashenvale, the mortal races banded together with the Night Elves in defence of their world. In the final battle on Mt. Hyjal, the Humans and Orcs managed to delay the advance of the Legion while the Night Elves, under the command of Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage and High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind, prepared the wrath of nature itself to repel the unholy invaders. As Archimonde embraced the World Tree Nordrassil in anticipation of his final victory, the spirits of nature rose against him and scoured his presence from the world. The Second Invasion of the Burning Legion was defeated. After having been turned against the world and all life upon it, Medivh's return had saved the mortal realm from the corruption he had been forced to unleash upon it.
It is not shown what happened to Medivh after the battle at Mt. Hyjal. In the final epilogue, he says, "And now that my task is done, I will take my place amongst the legends of the past." The viewer is left to decide whether this is truly the end of Medivh's influence in the affairs of Azeroth, or not.
Cycle of Hatred
In the book Cycle of Hatred it is revealed that Aegwynn used her anti-aging magic (which keeps her young) and what little remained of her powers to build up enough power to resurrect Medivh.
World of Warcraft
Medivh makes a physical appearance in the "Caverns of Time: The Black Morass" in The Burning Crusade, where the players are able to go back in time and defend Medivh as he opens the Dark Portal in the Black Morass, which is now the Blasted Lands. The mysterious Infinite Dragonflight seeks to rewrite history by preventing Medivh from opening the Dark Portal, thus preventing the Orcs from crossing over to Azeroth. While this may seem like a good change, if the Orcs never come to Azeroth, then they will never ally with the Humans and Night Elves in the future to stop the Burning Legion. Waves of dragons advance upon Medivh who must be defended by players in this level 70 Instance.
Medivh's tower of Karazhan can be found in the southern end of the Deadwind Pass. The tower is described as a temporal hourglass, time flowing from the tower seen above to a mirror image of the tower found below. It is a level 70 instance designed for a 10-player raid.
In addition, his staff, , is a legendary caster weapon in the game, which has been broken into 42 pieces and must be united in order to wield it. The shards are in the hands of the lieutenants to the lich overlord Kel'Thuzad in his citadel of Naxxramas, the base in the hands of C'Thun in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, and the most important part - the headpiece - is in the hands of Kel'Thuzad himself.
Other facts
Medivh's knowledge of demons is astonishing; as described by the Undead necromancer/lich Kel'Thuzad (who brought Archimonde into the realm of Azeroth by using one of Medivh's books on demons). Medivh's spellbook was also used by Ner'zhul in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal to reopen the Dark Portal.
When he was reborn, Medivh gained the ability to transform into a raven, something he does often during his time in the mortal realm.

Mannoroth the Destructor is a fictional character set in Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft Universe. Mannoroth was previously the leader of the Pit Lords, under the command of Archimonde, until he was killed by Grom Hellscream. After his death Azgalor was made leader of the Pit Lords. It was Mannoroth's blood that the orcs on Draenor drank which gave them their infamous blood lust.
Mannoroth is also one of the highest populated servers of the online MMORPG, World of Warcraft. It is a PVP (Player Versus Player) type of server. Mannoroth was the first PVP server, and second server ever, to open the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, a 40-Man Raid Instance set in Silithus.
The War of the Ancients
Mannoroth was one of the demons involved in the original attack on Kalimdor many centuries ago during the War of the Ancients. He was defeated by Cenarius and his followers and sent back into the Twisting Nether as the Well of Eternity was destroyed in the great sundering.
When humans started to use magic recklessly the demons felt the magic and prepared for a second attack.
The Corruption of the Orcs
Kil'jaeden thought that the Legion needed an initial force to weaken the denizens of Azeroth before their true invasion. When he discovered the orcs, he corrupted their elder shaman Ner'zhul. However, to the Legion's chagrin, Ner'zhul became reluctant to give his people entirely over to the pursuit of war. Kil'jaeden went to Ner'zhul's apprentice Gul'dan, turning him into a powerful warlock, allowing him to found the Shadow Council, a secretive group that manipulated the orc clans and spread savagery and warlock magics throughout them. The Shadow Council eventually summoned Mannoroth and convinced the clan chieftains that drinking the demon's blood would make them invincible. Grom Hellscream led many other Chieftains in drinking the blood.
With the help of Medivh the Shadow Council opened the Dark Portal and the Orcs invaded Azeroth. The Orcs defeated the humans in the First War and nearly won the Second War but Gul'dan betrayed the warchief, Orgrim Doomhammer, and left the horde in search of the Tomb of Sargeras, taking a large number of orcs with him. This led to the defeat of the Horde. The remaining orcs were rounded up and placed in internment camps. The orcs, and in turn, Mannoroth, had failed. Mannoroth vowed that he would have his revenge on the failure that was the orcs.
The Death of Mannoroth
After the Scourge had successfully completed their job, which the orcs had failed, the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth once more. Mannoroth was eager to destroy the remaining orcs on Azeroth but Archimonde ordered him to stay his wrath. Tichondrius advised Mannoroth to pour his blood into a fountain, corrupting it. When the Warsong Clan detected its presence in the midst of their battle with the Sentinels of the Night Elves, Grom Hellscream once again led the orcs in drinking the blood. Grom and his Warsong Clan killed the demigod Cenarius and many Night Elves along with him.
When Thrall returned from seeing the Oracle Medivh, he and Jaina Proudmoore captured the corrupted Grom and returned him to his senses. Thrall and Grom then set off to find and destroy Mannoroth. When they found him, Mannoroth easily dispatched Thrall, but Grom managed to overcome the Pit Lord, burying his axe deep into the demon's chest. The mortal strike resulted in a fiery conflagration which consumed Mannoroth and mortally wounded Grom. The death of Mannoroth served to finally lift the blood haze from the orcs, the demon's curse removed. Grom's sacrifice had freed his people.
Currently, a memorial stands in World of Warcraft's Orgrimmar, near Thrall's Great Hall. A large tree carries Mannoroth's massive plate armour and skull, as a symbol of the Horde's strength against the Burning Legion, as well as to serve a memorial for Grom Hellscream's sacrifice. Mannoroth's broken polearm and Grom Hellscream's grave can be found in Demon Fall Canyon in Southeastern Ashenvale.

As described in Warcraft 3, Malfurion is the twin brother to Illidan Stormrage. Tyrande Whisperwind was a constant childhood companion to him, and has since become his lover. Malfurion is over 9,000 years old, as indicated by his involvement in both the first war against the Burning Legion and in the events of Warcraft 3.
Warcraft 3 depicts the demigod Cenarius teaching Malfurion the ways of druidism, a practice which, according to the lore of Azeroth (Blizzard's Warcraft world) was nearly unheard of in the time of the First Invasion. While there had been other students to the demigod, Malfurion was the first to be taught and still retain his original form. All others had changed to become forest spirits similar to Cenarius himself. Malfurion proved to be extraordinarily adept in the use of this new power, possibly due to his already benevolent nature, and quickly became a force to reckon with.
In sharp contrast to his brother, Malfurion displays a temperate disposition throughout the Warcraft games and literature. He consistently places the needs and welfare of others above his own and does not seek out power simply for its own sake. Even when roused to anger, he remains compassionate, especially in matters concerning those he cares for.
Malfurion Stormrage fought in the First Invasion of the Burning Legion and was instrumental in the eventual victory of the forces of Azeroth. He was responsible for the death of Lord Xavius (both as a Night Elf and then again when Xavius had been transformed into a satyr). With the help of his brother, Malfurion used the power of the Demon Soul to close the portal created within the Well of Eternity. This action prevented the Dark Titan, Sargeras, from entering into Azeroth. The energies released by this act inadvertently caused the Well's collapse. This, in turn, sank the ancient Night Elven capital Zin-Azshari to the bottom of the sea and split the continent of Kalimdor into two separate landmasses. When his brother, Illidan Stormrage, recreated the Well in a new location atop Mount Hyjal, he was discovered by a group of Night Elves surveying the summit. Illidan slew several of them before being detained and brought to trial. The ultimate judgement for his crimes was left to Malfurion, who spared Illidan a death sentence, instead having him imprisoned indefinitely. Maiev Shadowsong was assigned to be Illidan's jailor.
Sometime between then and the Second Invasion of the Burning Legion, Malfurion, now an Archdruid, entered the Emerald Dream along with several other druids, until he was awakened by Tyrande Whisperwind. He fought against the Burning Legion a second time and he performed the ritual that destroyed Archimonde and damaged the World Tree at the Battle of Mount Hyjal, thus severing the Night Elves' connection to it and taking away their immortality.
After the battle, Malfurion worked to restore Kalimdor to its original greatness but after receiving a message from Maiev he left for Lordaeron to face his brother Illidan, whom the Warden had been tracking. Once there, Malfurion sought to stop Illidan's plans by destroying the Eye of Sargeras. However upon learning that his love, Tyrande, was in danger, Illidan agreed to help Malfurion save her. After Tyrande had been saved Malfurion spared Illidan's life and Illidan chose to run to Outland to escape the demon lord Kil'jaeden (Kil'jaeden had tasked Illidan with destroying the Frozen Throne in which the Lich King resided, but Illidan was unsuccessful and thus wanted to flee so he could save himself from the demon's wrath).
World Of Warcraft
The Night Elves lamented at the loss of their cherished immortality. However, a few druids discovered that a new world tree can be planted to regain their connection to its magic, and reclaim their immortality. Malfurion strongly voiced his opinion against it saying that nature will never bless such a selfish creation. Malfurion Stormrage stands as both prophet and savior to his people and his word stood above all others. But to replenish his powers after the events of the Second Invasion of the Burning Legion, Malfurion returned to the spirit realm known as the Emerald Dream. Shortly before the beginning of the World of Warcraft timeline, something went wrong with Malfurion's dreamstate. As the timeline currently stands, he is trapped somewhere within the dream beyond the reach of the green dragons (the guardians of the Emerald Dream).
With Malfurion missing, Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm took over the leadership of the druids, convincing the Circle of Ancients in Darkshore that it was time for the elves to rebuild, and that it was time for them to regain their immortality. With the approval of the Circle, Staghelm and the most powerful druids grew Teldrassil, the new World Tree. However, this new World Tree was not given the blessing of the Aspects (Alexstrazsa, Ysera, and Nozdormu). Moreover, the creation of Teldrassil was motivated solely by the Night Elves' self-serving goal of regaining their immortality, rather than the benefit of Azeroth as a whole; this has caused the growth of Teldrassil to be fundamentally flawed and has allowed corruption to take root in the Tree itself. Thus, many of the remaining night elves- while still faithful to their new home- now search the world of Azeroth in hopes of finding their lost leader.
Recently, new light had been shed on the state of the Emerald Dream, now known as the Emerald Nightmare. Four dragons of Ysera's brood have entered Azeroth and stand guard at the four Great Trees. Upon the defeat of one of the mighty dragons, a nightmare-shrouded object was discovered and taken to Remulos, a Keeper of the Grove and son of the demigod Cenarius. When purified in the waters of Lake Elune'ara, a startling and unexpected vision of Malfurion appeared.
During their conversation, Malfurion revealed to Remulos that there was a terrible new evil seeking entry to Azeroth through the Emerald Dream. This ancient foe was causing the Nightmare that is slowly destroying the Green dragonflight. The druid also mentioned that Cenarius was with him, fighting alongside him against the growing threat, and that his brother Illidan had lost all vestiges of his sanity because of his defeat at Arthas' hands. As the vision faded, Malfurion asked that his love be sent to Tyrande, and promised that he would return.
