CreaToon is a 2D animation software solution developed by Androme N.V. for Microsoft Windows to create 2D animation in the cut-out style. As of version 3.0, further development has been discontinued, and CreaToon has been released as freeware.
Features
CreaToon specializes in cut-out style animation, which allows features that cannot be implemented in the traditional style; for example, changing the colors and transparency of the images, independent of the rest of the scene.
Some of CreaToon's main features are:
*real-time editing previewing,
*automatic in-betweening,
*freedom of graphical style (no drawing tools are included. It is solely for cut-out style animation)
*combining bitmaps with vector graphics
Apart from this, CreaToon also includes standard features like bitmap support and keyframe editors.
Creatoon was used by some professional studios for the production of several series of animations for Children's TV programmes. (eg: 'Numbertime' and 'Bonny, Banana and Mo'). Examples can be found on the website and on Youtube. There are also a few basic introductory tutorials on Youtube.
It needs to be noted that on forums such as CALICO MONKEY, potential users of Creatoon frequently report problems installing or running the program. Sometimes this is because the FREE REGISTRATION KEY has not also been downloaded with the software, but it has also become obvious that although Creatoon should run with stability in Windows 98 and Windows XP, it is most unlikely to install or run in Vista. This often proves to be at the heart of many peoples' concerns and complaints. HOWEVER - the following notes may help ....
If you want to install and run CREATOON on Windows 7, this is the way to make it work ... go to: CONTROL PANEL --- SYSTEMS AND SECURITY --- FIND AND FIX PROBLEMS --- PROGRAMS --- RUN PROGRAMS MADE FOR EARLIER VERSIONS OF WINDOWS. Whether or not this also works for VISTA I don't know.
Another common problem is that new users can't see how to import images with transparent backgrounds. There are tutorials on Youtube, but in essence, the solution is to convert or save images in the png format where the desired area of transparency has been created and saved. The free program IRFANVIEW does this very well.
