Rock Noir Movement is a series of live afro-punk, indie, black rock 'n soul events with an urban music influence. The shows which started in February 2010 at the Rivoli in downtown Toronto Ontario Canada, was concieved by festival and event producer Marcus McLean ( of HeadNod Collective/Red Fisted Rebels). This event channels the spirit of the Bad Brains, Bloc Party, Fishbone, Ice T's band Body Count, Run DMC and too many others to note. Rock Noir is a celebration of the black artists that live and love rock influenced music.
Since its inception the event has moved to other famous Toronto rock bars such as The Hideout and The Bovine Sex Club. Rock Noir's bi-monthly showcases have featured the oOohh Baby Gimme More's, Bludwash, Curtis Santiago, Saidah Baba Talibah, as well as other afro-punk and black rock 'n roll bands from the Toronto area. Each Rock Noir event is numbered and Marcus McLean has noted that this is a result of his love for films, and his obsession with Rocky movies and their almost endless sequels.
