On 28 November 2004, the landing gear of KLM Flight 1673 struck a bird, which broke a cable in the nose wheel. The flight continued normally, but when the flight crew attempted to land their jet, they were unable to control the aircraft's movement, and the aircraft veered off the runway before the landing gear collapsed. All 146 passengers on board the Boeing 737-406 survived the accident.
Accident
The jet was cleared for departure from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at 16:46. During take-off from runway 18L, the nose gear of the plane hit a bird. This incident was reported to air traffic control, the landing gear was raised normally and the flight continued normally.
Upon touching down on runway 25R at Barcelona International Airport, the aircraft started deviating to the left of the runway centreline. The crew applied right rudder, braking and nose wheel steering tiller but could not keep the aircraft on the runway. After it veered off the paved surface of the runway at about 100 knots, the jet went through an area of soft sand where construction works were being carried out. The nose landing gear leg collapsed and the left main landing gear leg detached from its fittings shortly before the aircraft came to a stop perched over the edge of a drainage canal. All crew and passengers were able to leave the aircraft safely, but the aircraft itself had to be completely written off.
Investigation
The cause was discovered to be a broken cable in the nose wheel steering system caused by the bird collision. Contributing to the snapped cable was the improper application of grease during routine maintenance which had shown local wear to begin with. The final report on the accident concluded:

It is considered that the accident probably happened because during the takeoff a bird strike broke one of the cables of the nose wheel steering system of the aircraft and jammed the other, which made that the nose wheels were rotated to the left during landing, causing a veering to the left that could not be arrested by full rudder deflection as the aircraft decelerated. The subsequent application of brakes and other actions by the crew could not avoid that the aircraft went outside the runway surface.
The damages to the aircraft were increased by the condition of the runway strip due to the airport construction works.
Contributing to the breaking of the cable was the fact that it was severely worn locally. The wear could be traced back to the incorrect application of grease to the cable system during maintenance. Despite the training and experience of the flight crew, they were unable to quickly recognize the possible cause of the deviation of the aircraft and to keep the aircraft on the runway.

KLM continues to use Flight 1673 on its Amsterdam-Barcelona route.

Dicky Ryan (born May 31, 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a professional heavyweight boxer and former IBC titleholder.
Professional career
Ryan began his career on May 16, 1987 by scoring a 2nd-round KO against Steve Hatfield at the National Guard Armory in New Castle, Indiana. On February 12, 1997, with a record of 40-2 (33KOs) built on beating mid-level fighters, Ryan faced former undisputed heavyweight champion and lost to him in a 10 round unanimous decision. Then on May 2, 1998 he was stopped in the 5th round by the future 2-time WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.
Ryan vs Nielsen
Ryan is best known for being the fighter who stopped the undefeated streak of the Danish fighter Brian Nielsen on June 18, 1999 in Denmark. At the time, Nielsen had tied Rocky Marciano's record of 49 straight wins by winning mostly against mid-level opposition since 1992, although he had notable wins over Phil Jackson, Damon Reed, Crawford Grimsley, Don Steele, Peter McNeeley and over several former champions like , Tony Tubbs, Larry Holmes and Tim Witherspoon.
During the fight night, Nielsen was controlling majority of the bout. In the end of the forth round Nielsen dropped Ryan on the canvas by a left hook to the body, but the punch was ruled a slip by referee Jess Andreasen (who saw Ryan blocked the punch). Nielsen did it again in the eighth round, although once again it was not the result of a punch but rather his leaning on the back of Ryan. The fight was eventually stopped in the tenth round, when Nielsen ran out of gas and lacked the energy to even clinch with Ryan, who easily pushed Nielsen off and into the referee. When Nielsen then fell back from the referee and into the ropes, the referee saw enough, waving the fight with a little over two minutes to go. Seconds later Nielsen collapsed in the ring and was rushed to the hospital. Later he was found to be suffering from massive dehydration. The bout had not been classified as a title fight, but the IBO still stripped Nielsen of their title as a consequence of his defeat. In December 2000 Ryan met Nielsen once more in a rematch and this time Ryan lost on points.
Later career
After that Ryan faced several notable names like Timo Hoffmann, Nikolay Valuev and Shannon Briggs, losing to all of them by knockout.
Ryan fought for the last time on September 7, 2007 against former heavyweight titleholder Hasim Rahman and was stopped in the 2nd round after Rahman sent Ryan down to the canvas twice. Ryan arose each time but Rahman continued to land mostly right hands, which Ryan, aged 40, had no defense for. A short time later, Rahman landed three shots to Ryan’s body, which doubled him over and sent him to the canvas where he laid as the referee counted him out. Ryan finished his career with a final professional record of 55 wins, 10 losses, 13 no contests with 44 knockouts.

Slam Dunk Cinema is a radio programme broadcast regularly on Sheffield Live every Saturday afternoon between 12PM and 1PM. The show, 'Sheffield's flagship movie review show', features film reviews from film critic Van Connor; whilst his producer and co-presenter Dave Walker "referees". The show is broadcast live on radio; with each programme available on iTunes as a podcast typically the same day as broadcast.
Broadcast history
Connor took over the long-defunct film program for Sheffield Live in July 2011 and immediately set about finding a co-presenter, deciding on Dave Walker - a former classmate from Sheffield Hallam University. Prior to the show's debut, Adam Heeley (another friend of Connor's) joined the crew, initially as an informal technical consultant and quickly became the show's executive producer.
Features
The first fifteen minute segment of the show normally contains a run down of the week's top ten films, with brief comments from Connor. The second typically sees a run through of the week's film news (with varying reactions of dismay from Walker) and the week's competition. The final half hour is devoted to full reviews of recently released films, culminating at the end of each show with Connor identifying his 'Film of the Week'.
Running jokes
Over the course of the show, several recurring jokes have emerged. These include:
* Connor's referring to Walker as his "lovely assistant".
* Walker's impersonation of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
* The duo's unabashed love of homoerotic cinema and 80's action films.
* Connor's "man love" for Ben Affleck and Tom Hardy.
* Walker's physical appearance being "pirate-like".
* Connor's continual participation in "Man Night", in which he and one-time guest John Coulson "embrace manly cinematic goodness".
* Friend of the show, Rob Yeomans, having worked briefly on The Iron Lady.
