Daniela Lungu (born May 11, 1964) is a Romanian TV producer, director, writer and painter.
Early life
Daniela Lungu was born in Calvini (Buzau), Romania, on May 11, 1964, in a family of teachers, Constantin and Elisabeta Lungu. She had a younger brother, Justinian, who also became her good friend. She lost him in the fall of 2009. They had a beautiful and adventurous childhood, wandering together in the forests of the neighborhood and swimming in the river. Their parents took good care of their education and surrounded them with love and kindness. The woods and nature always fascinated Lungu. The nut tree from their garden is only a few years older than she and was one of her best friends as a child and teenager. She doesn’t miss the chance of giving the tree a hug every time she goes back home.
Lungu respected her parents’ wish and went to a nursing high school between 1978 and 1982. Her debut as a writer was as a teenager when she wrote the novel, Apricot Flower (Floare de Cais), inspired by her school experiences. The novel won second prize in the contest of literary creation for students, Young Quills (Tinere Condeie). After she failed a few times to become a student at the Faculty of Medicine, she decided to have a family life and married the man who was going to be her husband for 13 years as well as the father of her two daughters. Later, it was time for her to follow up on one of her biggest dreams. In 1999 she started to study at The Faculty of Film and Television Directing at the Hyperion University in Bucharest. Her professors included Dr. Mircea Dragan, a respected Romanian film director, and Dr. Vasilica Istrate, who taught scriptwriting.
Career
Television
Lungu’s activity in television started while she was still in university, working as a cultural editor at Antena 1. She worked as a TV show producer, artistic director, copywriter and advertising producer. She was head of the on-air promotions department at several private televisions in Bucharest (Prima TV, Realitatea TV, Kanal D, National TV, N24, Favorit TV, B1 TV). Her promotions work also has allowed her to support philanthropic causes such as a fundraising campaign for a child in need of complex heart surgery in the United States. Lungu was manager of the Brasov International Film Festival in 2011.
She produced the following TV shows:
* Medical Hour (Ora Redicala) - Realitatea TV (Reality TV)
* Train of Life (Trenul Vietii) - talk show - B1 TV
* ARTTELE - fine arts show - B1 TV
* Doctor B1 - medical show - B1 TV
Literature
Lungu has completed a novel, The Demonized Colony, (Colonia cu Demoni), inspired by a personal experience she had while visiting a village in Suceava (northern Romanian city) for a documentary film she was preparing for RTL Munchen in 2002. The village was a colony where possessed people lived in a common attempt to find God, and Lungu decided to spend almost three weeks with them. The idea for this novel developed in her heart, and she knew she had to convey all she saw and understood while living there. Lungu wrote three quarters of the novel in a month, and then she postponed additional writing for a year and a half. Lungu considers providential the fact that she accidentally met, after many years, Cornelia Birea, her former Romanian language teacher in secondary school. Cornelia and her husband, the engineer Nicolae Birea, persuaded Lungu to continue working on the novel and eventually finish it. Lungu now is working on a book about alternative medicine based on the therapeutic virtues of the Tibetan argyle, www.argila-algo.ro. Mircea Bocan from Alba Iulia has studied and worked with argyle for more than 12 years now and was invited to be a guest on several of Lungu’s medical TV shows. Bocan convinced her about the miracle this natural product makes, and she had a chance to test it on herself. Even if Lungu doesn’t believe in a panacea, the results of a treatment with argyle are amazing for digestive, liver, intestines and kidney problems. In many cases, the argyle gave, due to its properties, good results in early cancers, as well as in adsorption of toxins and cancer cells. Lungu also has her own blog, www.danielalungu.com, where she posts opinions, literary creations, including poems and short prose, and naturalist and integrative medicine articles. Her blog has a great rating.
Painting
Lungu started painting in 2010 after spending some time filming in museums and art galleries for a television project. She never took painting lessons, except for four or five times when she was a child, when two older friends were studying painting. Angels are the central theme of her work. Lungu strongly believes in a parallel world with angels and saints ready to help us in our travel through this world. As Arsenie Boca said: "Make angels work!" ("Puneti ingerii la treaba!") - rely on them and ask for their assistance. Examples of her paintings are available at the DaLu Gallery.
Personal life
Daniela was married for 13 years and has two daughters.
As far as her artistic creations are concerned, Lungu is convinced she is only the instrument through which a poem, a book or a painting gets done. She stands in front of the easel with no initial plan and just starts painting. After she draws a first line, then a second and so on, a shape starts to appear, and the colors are brought together. This is the moment when the whole story starts. The same thing happens for Lungu when she writes something. She doesn’t believe herself to be the creator of all this work, for which she is grateful and feels blessed.
