The New Classic is the debut studio album by Australian hip hop artist Iggy Azalea, set to be released during the Summer 2013 through Grand Hustle Records.
Background
Azalea revealed in December that she will be releasing her debut album, The New Classic, in the first quarter of 2012. She also said she will be signing a record label deal soon and "once that's sorted out and I establish an over all sound and direction for the album I will be able to know what artists would make for a dynamic collaboration". In January 2012, Azalea released the visuals for her final promotional mixtape song, "The Last Song". On January 27, Azalea confirmed she had finally signed to Interscope Records and her debut album, The New Classic, would be released in June and a debut single in March. Iggy Azalea is getting a co-sign from T.I.. The Atlanta rapper will executive produce the newcomer’s upcoming debut. Iggy Said “I’m working with a different production company for my album than what I did for my mixtape , and I don’t know who yet,” Iggy told MTV News. “I’m still looking. T.I.’s gonna be helping me with it, kinda like A&Ring, kinda like executive-producing.” Azalea explained how she came into contact with T.I.. “He called me up and was like, ‘Please.’ And I was like, ‘Definitely. You’re T.I.P. I love you, of course.’ So he’s gonna be kinda helping me out, like just kinda reaching out to people and helping me find production and pointing me in the direction of things that I might like.” “We’re gonna start on that next week together. I’ll probably fly out to Atlanta and we’ll do it in between there because he’s weird with traveling and stuff. I understand. We’re in touch with each other. I have legal issues, he has legal issues. I get it. So hopefully that will be really dynamic and it’ll help speed things along.” Iggy is eyeing an early 2013 release for her debut The New Classic.
In October 2012, Azalea revealed on Twitter she would be temporarily moving from Los Angeles to London to focus on finishing The New Classic. During her headlining European tour in December, she mentioned the project would be her next release, "My album will be for the near future, which is "The New Classic", it's like a year late. But I actually get off the road in two days and I will be working on it all throughout December and we will put it out this Summer and release it in the UK and Europe first. And it's going to be similar to "Trapgold" and that will be very electronic and high-energy but I'm gonna talk more about my story and where I'm from and things about myself because I never really say that, I don't tell you too much about me, it's kind of just talking a lot of ****. It's what I really do, like energy and dance... but I do wanna touch on who I am and tell my story because I feel like I have a really interesting story and a lot of people don't know that because a lot of people don't see the interviews and I would like to put it in my music that I've been waiting for the right time for something that I feel like people will hear in the right platform and I think it will be this album so the near future will just be trying to tell my story in that album next year."
In an interview with 16Bars.TV released in 2013, Azalea revealed that although she's still signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint, he won't be executive producer of her debut. "He's actually not, anymore," Azalea said when asked about T.I.'s role. "He was going to be, but originally...all the records that I had on Glory were supposed to be on The New Classic, and he executive produced what ended up being Glory." Azalea said that artistically, both she and Tip agreed that she needed to go in a different direction with her debut. "As I was making it, I felt like, 'This isn't The New Classic; this is something else. It's not the right sound.' Not that it sounded bad, but it wasn't what The New Classic is in my head. And he executive produced that, and that went good, it was an experience, but after, he said and I said, it's better if I just make my own music away because sometimes being around him, it influences the music I make to be a bit too much of a different sound, and so for that reason he's not going to be . But not because I don't love him, because I love him." Azalea also said she would be working with producers including Diplo, Steve Aoki and Flosstradamus on the album, which she said she began working earlier in December. She also announced that the first single would be released in February and the album during the Summer.
Title
Azalea explained the concept behind her debut album title, “I think people think of classic and they think of a Nas record or a Jay-Z record or The Chronic,”
“What makes something classic is when you hear it and you have that moment that is a time capsule. When I say The New Classic, I just want to make records that give you that moment for fans that they can remember where they were when they heard it.”
Promotion
On September 27, 2011, Azalea released her first free mixtape, Ignorant Art, saying she made it "with the intent to make people question and redefine old ideals”. On July 30, 2012, she released a free EP entitled "Glory". On October 11, 2012, Azalea released another free mixtape, "TrapGold". Habilian Association is a Human Rights NGO in Iran. It is dedicated to families who have lost members due western- supported terrorist groups, such as the People's Mujahedin of Iran (Mujahedin-e Khalq MEK). They believe that the "Islamic Republic of Iran has been the biggest victim of terrorism", recording the names of over 17,000 innocent victims of violence, with 12,000 killed by the People’s Mujahedin of Iran "terrorist cult". They have met with many Iraqi officials as well as a number of European and American policy makers and journalists, and publicized the crimes of the MKO in Iran, Iraq, and some European countries. In an interview with Iran's Press TV, they also stated they believe MKO funnels arms and money to Syrian rebels and supports the Free Syrian Army.
The Encyclopedia of Iranian Terror Victims
Habilian Association published the encyclopedia of Iranian terror victims in 2011. On May 21, 2011, the encyclopedia was unveiled during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the International conference on Global Alliance against Terrorism for a Just Peace.
A credible document showing that Iran is the victim of terrorism, the Encyclopedia of Iranian Terror Victims contains the names of 17159 Iranians assassinated by various terrorist groups since past thirty years.
The number of assassinated martyrs of Iran increased to 17160, when representatives of Habilian Association (families of Iranian terror victims) paid a visit to Ahmadi-Roshan’s house and his mother wrote down the name of his only son at this Encyclopedia.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Iran's Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asqar Soltaniyeh announced that he plans to present a copy of the encyclopedia of the Iranian victims of terrorism to the UN.
Rah-Nama Monthly Magazine
To investigate and examine dimensions of terrorism together with informing people of various types of terrorist groups and organizations, Habilian publishes the first special journal in the area of terrorism, Rah Nama Monthly Magazine.
Covering a wide range of topics from the study of terrorism to all the terrorist groups across the world, Rah-Nama magazine released 10 issues in 2012.
Thailand Blasts
Habilian interviewed noted American PressTV contributor Mark Dankof, who believes that MEK terrorists were responsible for bomb blasts in Thailand, and that the Iranian government could not be involved, nor in the Saudi Ambassador assassination plot that was blamed on Iran by the US. Dankof stated that a U.S. official had confirmed Israeli/MEK involvement in Thailand, and also in Iranian Azerbaijan, Khuzestan, Balochistan, and Khorasan provinces.
Syria
According to Director Seyyed Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad of the Habilian Association, up to 400 MEK members are Syria to create chaos and violence. He claimed
“We have conclusive proof and documents showing that the MKO has a strong and significant presence in Syria. The terrorist group has begun carrying out acts of sabotage and terrorism against the Syrian government and nation, and has found major influence among Syrian rebels" in a meeting with the Syrian Ambassador to Tehran. He claims MKO funnels arms and money to Syrian rebels, and that the "anti-Iran terrorist organization" supports the Free Syrian Army
