Bryan Eaton (born February 14, 1950) is an Abraham Lincoln author and graphic artist. In 2009, Mr. Eaton published a complete collection of Abraham Lincoln photographs digitally updated to full color photographs. The photos were published in a unique first edition book called “Color of Lincoln”. He has spent 12 years in radio and television broadcasting working for NBC in San Francisco and on-air in Las Vegas, NV and Monterey, California. Bryan transitioned to computers as a systems developer and later a Project Management Institute certified Project Manager. In 1994, Bryan Eaton developed the first multimedia trading card. From that project the colorization of historic photographs started. Starting in late 2004, Mr. Eaton began to colorize the collection of Lincoln photos. The collection of 122 photos were copyrighted in 2009 and became a part of the Abraham Lincoln
]
In merging media and computers, Bryan developed the first multimedia trading card in 1994 and from that beginning has continued to work on digital graphic arts, culminating in this first ever collection of lifelike color photos of Abraham Lincoln.
The color photographs of the 16th president were added to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in fall of 2008 and completed its collection of Lincoln photographs, providing images it did not have in its collection. Bryan also has designed the commemorative shirts for the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Inaugural ceremonies in Kentucky on February 12-13, 2008. The poses were similar showing Lincoln with arms folded. The first shows an unbearded Lincoln from the Preston Butler photo taken on August 13, 1860. The second shows a bearded President Lincoln taken by Lewis E. Walker in 1863. Both designs carry the Bicentennial logo as well as references to the "Color of Lincoln" source materials at www.ColorofLincoln.com . Only 300 of each shirt were produced for the event. The commemorative shirts are the only collectible items authorized and produced by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission in the first year of the Lincoln Bicentennial and were limited to only 200 shirts of each design.
The Lincoln Forum in the Spring, 2009 issue of the "Lincoln Forum Bulletin" saying that the Color of Lincoln book "..does for 19th century photographs what Ted Turner-sponsored colorization did for classic movies : adds vivid tinting to the fuzzy black- and- white prints of Lincoln's own era. What emerges is a startlingly new portrayal of the 16th president, bound to stir emotion and even controversy . Historian James Cornelius called the result "an excellent example of an 'a-ha!' moment of invention .. why didn't someone think of this sooner?" Historian James Cornelius,Ph.D., also curator iof the Lincoln COllection at the ABraham Lincoln Presidential Library, went further to indicate that "the book is a substantial contribution to the history of photography, of colorization and of Lincoln iconography".
Bryan Eaton is President of Color of Lincoln, Inc. a publication and licensing company for color Abraham Lincoln photos.
