SiteKiosk is a kiosk software application which is used to secure public access computers as well as information and Internet terminals. The software makes it possible to run devices in so-called kiosk mode. The built-in Web browser is based on the Web browser control of Internet Explorer, but offers more features that are intended to improve, first and foremost, security and ease of use.
History
The first version of the software was released in 1998 and has undergone constant further development ever since. In addition to SiteKiosk for Windows, PROVISIO also launched a version of its application for the Android platform in 2011.
When tested in an independent global study relating to kiosk browsers, SiteKiosk prevailed against 44 competitors and ranked 1st place.
Included features
SiteKiosk provides a customizable option to restrict access to the operating systems, system settings, applications and websites from the time the system boots up until it is shut down. Another integrated feature is a content filter which helps prevent access to websites that are considered to be harmful to young people. Apart from these primary security features, the software also features skins that make it possible for the user to customize home pages or the integrated browser.
Another option lets the user check the devices run by SiteKiosk using optional remote maintenance software that is intended for repairs and maintenance purposes.
Also, Provisio has partnered up with PrinterOn to add remote printing capabilities to public access computers in business centers, hotel lobby or any other place where users want to remotely send print jobs from their mobile devices directly to a PrinterOn-enabled printer that is connected to the SiteKiosk PC without having to connect to your secure network or download drivers.
System requirements
The software is currently available for the following platforms and operating systems:
* Windows: at least , version 6.6 or higher , version 7.1 or higher also support , version 8.5 or higher also support
* Android: Version 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher
Further details
According to the software maker’s website, more than 250,000 copies of SiteKiosk have already been installed, making it the most commonly used software product for public access terminals world-wide.
A German-wide survey conducted among public libraries in 2010 revealed that it is the most commonly used software solution when it comes to setting up and managing PC and Internet workstations.

Beacon Editor is a web based WYSIWYG XML editor which uses XSLT in the back-end to show editable HTML in the browser. Its functionality can be extended by writing plugins which enable it to recognize other type of XML formats. Currently it supports GuideXML and Docbook.
The back-ends for Beacon are written in both PHP and Python. Front-end, almost entirely, relies on Javascript.
Introduction
Beacon Editor started off as a Google Summer of Code Project in 2006 for Gentoo and was continued again as Summer of Code Projects in the year 2008 (again for Gentoo) and 2009 (for Fedora). Currently the project has a test ebuild for Gentoo systems and an approved package for Fedora (yum install beacon).
Features
Design view
The design view deviates from standard WYSIWYG paradigm by using a fill-in-the-blanks approach. It displays the document as it would be rendered when XML is processed so the user can have a live preview of the document. For editing Beacon uses inline editors which open up when the user clicks an area on the document. This is done to prevent bad XML from being generated which can happen due to quirks in the contentEditable/designMode modes of browsers. It also uses a document tree that helps in adding new block elements and navigating the document easily.
Source view
Source view uses a simple text field that shows the current XML. There are plans of using CodeMirror to make plain XML editing much more easier.
Licensing
Beacon is licensed under GNU General Public License (version 3 or later).
