Sujoy Banerjee is a distinguished Indian conservationist with the Indian Forest Service known for his wildlife conservation efforts in India.
Career
Before joining the Indian Forest Service, Banerjee worked as a Lecturer from 1994 to 1997 in the area of Ecosystem Management & Technical Forestry at the internationally renowned Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) in Bhopal, India. Banerjee worked for a year at Ballarpur Industries Ltd. Paper Mill at Yamunanagar in Haryana, India prior to joining IIFM.
Banerjee currently serves as a Divisional Forest Officer based in Noida, India for the Forest Department of Uttar Pradesh State. He previously served in the same Department as the Deputy Conservator of Forests of the National Chambal Sanctuary Project, Agra where he headed the conservation and management programs for the renowned National Chambal Sanctuary. The "Chambal" is spread over two districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Agra and Etawah. Banerjee also headed conservation and management programs for the Soor Sarovar Bird Sanctuary in Agra district, Patna Bird Sanctuary in Eta district and Saman Bird Sanctuary in Mainpuri district. He was also actively involved in the initial development of a Lion Safari Park in Etawah. In recent years, the National Geographic Society featured his work to conserve critically endangered wildlife species, including crocodiles, dolphins, and red-crowned roofed turtles.
Banerjee also worked in the Regional Office of Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India in Bhopal in the capacity of Deputy Conservator of Forests over two periods (from 2005-2006 and again from 2009 to 2012).
He headed the Species Conservation Division in WWF-India, where he oversaw the conservation projects of tigers, rhinos, and elephants, among other charismatic species from South Asia. During his tenure, he was also actively involved in the wild translocation of Indian rhinos and Indian tiger.
Education
Banerjee is a Fellow of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, where he studied forestry and wildlife science. Banerjee received a post graduate diploma in forestry management from the Indian Institute of Forest Management. He also received certification in sustainability and environmental science from Bangor University and studied government relations at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. He received a degree in geology from Lucknow University.
He was the National Topper in the Indian Forest Service Examinations, 1996 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi.
Awards
In 2014, Banerjee was awarded an Earth Heroes Award by Royal Bank of Scotland for his work to preserve the gharial crocodile. He was also awarded the British Chevening Scolarship in 2005 and was recruited into the International Visitors' Leadership Programme in 2009.

Augusto Sorriso (born January 25, 1948) is an Italian and American politician and entrepreneur. He is a former mayor of Licata, Sicily, and has sought election to the Italian parliament.
Early life, education, and political career in Italy
Sorriso was born in Licata. He took a political science degree at the University of Florence and later returned to the city of his birth, where he worked in his family's construction business. He was a successful municipal politician with the Christian Democratic party, holding the city's mayoralty and other positions.
He ran for a seat in the Italian Chamber of Deputies in the 1994 general election as a candidate of the Solidarieta' Occupazione Sviluppo party and finished fourth in Licata's single-member division.
Later career in America
Sorriso moved to New Jersey with his family in 1994 and started a successful franchise of salad restaurants. He has been active in the Italian community, serving with the Confederation of Sicilians in North America and as an executive member of the General Council of Italians Abroad.
He ran for the Italian Senate as a Forza Italia candidate in the 2006 general election, the first in which Italian citizens outside the country were allowed to vote in international divisions. His party list was defeated by Romano Prodi's coalition, The Union.
Sorriso later ran for Berlusconi's People of Freedom coalition in the 2008 election. The list won a narrow victory, but Sorriso was outpolled by his running-mate, Basilio Giordano, for the seat. He later broke with Berlusconi's party and sought election to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in the 2013 Italian general election as a candidate of Mario Monti's With Monti for Italy. Although the party list won a seat, Sorriso was again outpolled by one of his running mates, Angela Rosaria Nissoli.
