The Locust defense was orchestrated by a deadly command duo consisting of a heavily armored Grenadier Elite and a tactical Locust Spotter, who used the high ground to rain devastating mortar and heavy fire onto advancing COG lines.
Despite suffering severe initial casualties from the ambush, COG forces rallied under the direct, aggressive field command of Sergeant Marcus Fenix. Leading a desperate bayonet and Lancer charge directly through the center of the choke point, Fenix personally breached the enemy command nest, eliminating both the Grenadier Elite and the Spotter in close-quarters combat. The death of their leadership shattered the Locust hive mind link in the sector, causing the remaining Horde forces to completely break formation and route, handing a decisive strategic victory to the COG.
