SNES Station is a Super Nintendo emulator for the PlayStation 2.

History

Development of SNES-Station was started sometime in 2001 by "Hiryu." His website was updated almost monthly for 2 years, and during that time 3 versions were released to the public. The latest version, WIP 0.2.3 was released January 24, 2004. Eventually updates slowed to a halt, and now the website hasn't been updated in 4 years; however, the official forum at gamebase.ca is still fairly active proving that many Homebrew users are still using SNES-Station.

Status

No word has been heard of Hiryu by the public for 2 years, and some have even come to believe he is dead; however, administrators on gamebase.ca claim to know Hiryu, and have stated that he is indeed alive, and that the only reason he has not updated is that he has a personal life and may have lost interest in SNES-Station. They have also stated that Hiryu is working on a new version of SNES-Station which will be released later, along with the source code.

These statements were made a few months ago though, and with the release of the PS3 past, many have little hope in the revival of SNES-Station.

Compatibility

SNES-Station is a complete conversion of snes9x for the PS2. It is stated on the website that it is based on snes9x v1.37c and should run any games that version runs with a few exceptions. This statement has held fairly true, as SNES-Station can run most SNES roms at 90 to 100 percent of the speed of the original hardware.

Bugs

Since the latest release of SNES-Station is a work-in-progress, there are some quirks to the software. For one, it has problems reading Roms unless the application is loaded from an ELF Launching program known as MCLoader. SNES-Station also has no support for USB or HDD, although unofficial patches have been released. (See Unofficial Development below)

Using SNES-Station

To run SNES-Station one must have either a modchipped PS2, HDAdvance version 3.0 CD-R backup disk plus have the SNES-Station disk encoded so that it resembles an original PS2 backup disk, or one that has been enabled using the PS2 Independence Exploit, and then first run MCLoader.

Contrary to the information provided above, SNES-Station can also be run without the use of a modchip, by means of Swap Discs. The disc is created, containing the Roms of choice and the program itself. When the disc is inserted, the user replaces the Swap Disc with the SNES Disc, and boots from that, and from then on, the Roms are loaded into memory, making it so that the user has the ability to remove the disc while a game is running, and still play it thoroughly, although the disc will need to be replaced before loading back into SNES-Station's menu. Swap Magic 3 Discs were used to test this situation. A common issue of using these discs with SNES-Station is that the disc will eventually freeze up after running in the PS2 for a while, and will force the user to re-load the discs.

Since SwapMagic V3.6 it has been possible to bypass the need for making a disc. The user needs a USB key/Pen drive and to create the folder SWAPMAGIC (case sensitive) then rename the SNESStation elf file to SWAPMAGIC.elf. Upon booting the PS2 Swapmagic sees this folder on the USB drive and boots the SWAPMAGIC.elf file thus starting SNES Station. Roms can be put in a folder on the USB key .

file required is snes_emu_hdd.elf and swapmagic cd/dvd v3.6

Unofficial Development

A patch has been written for SNES-Station, which can add USB and HDD support for Roms, however it has reportedly made SNES-Station very unstable. The patched version also makes MCLoader unnecessary. The version of snes_emu_hdd.elf dated 25/08/2006 is stable.

The Kickoff Goal is the strategy, idea, or concept of scoring a goal in FIFA 07 during a kickoff possession. Though moving the ball around a bit and scoring on the kickoff possession is technically a Kickoff Goal, its excitement comes from running the striker towards the goal, weaving through the opponents defense for a clear opportunity in the penalty area. Coined by Massachusetts native Michael Montigny, the use of this strategy is sweeping the area and has been seen used in as far away as Florida.

With the debut of FIFA 08 in early October 2007, the same rules apply for a Kickoff Goal in FIFA 08 as they did in FIFA 07. However, the game engine is now designed to make goal scoring much harder and Kickoff Goals are more rare, making the Kickoff Goal much, much more sweeter.

Defining a Kickoff Possession

In order to score a Kickoff Goal, it is obviously necessary to be in the Kickoff Possession. The kickoff possession can come about in many ways.

The Pass-Back

Passing the ball backwards is a very common way to achieve an easier way of scoring a Kickoff Goal in FIFA 07. Immediately after the kickoff is complete, the player with the ball is the closest player to the goal. There is no one to start anything with, and no opportunity to score. By crossing the ball backwards to the last wall of defenders, the computer has plenty of time to redirect the players to their offense formation and allow the player to pass the ball through the defense and into the penalty area in hopes of completing the opportunity.

The Free Kick

An uncommon method used to score a Kickoff Goal is by forcing a Direct free kick. The player controlling the ball has to rely on a missed slide tackle for the opportunity to even arise. Once this happens, you must then successfully hit the free kick. If the free kick is missed in a way where the possession is given to the other team, the kickoff possession is over.

The Corner Kick
Simply put, if a Corner kick is given during a teams Kickoff Possession, the Kickoff Possession is still valid. If a goal is scored off this corner kick it is indeed a Kickoff Goal. However, if the ball is most commonly crossed into the penalty area where players then fight for possession using their head, the Kickoff Possession may not end if touched by the opponent. If the opposing team heads the ball away from the goal, but it lands in possession of your own player, it is still a Kickoff Possession.

The Zig-Zag Method

The Zig-Zag Method is the most exciting and defining part of scoring a Kickoff Goal. Immediately after the kickoff is complete, the player with the ball, or the striker, is the closest player to the goal. Carefully using sprints and manually changing directions to throw off incoming defenders, the player uses the striker to set up an opportunity at the beginning of the penalty area, or even a few yards into it. This method is so effective because at the start of a kickoff, in a normal 4 defender formation, the defenders do not charge automatically at an incoming player. Instead, the player has to take control away from the computer (which is sometimes difficult to do with FIFA 07's difficult game engine regarding the switching of players), and charge at the opponent as if it were one on one. The Zig-Zag Method is really the way to get full pleasure and use out of the Kickoff Goal, for it leaves your opponent and other gamers in the audience in complete shock and awe.

The End of a Kickoff Possession

The end of a kickoff possession can come in many ways, and is usually disputed amongst FIFA 07 gamers. However, there are a few times that tell exactly when the possession has ended.

Passing it to the Goalkeeper

As previously stated, passing the ball backwards to allow the other players to set up the formation is a way to score on a kickoff possession. However, if you pass the goal too far backwards to your goalkeeper, your kickoff possession has ended. This marks the end of your possession because you have now given yourself the opportunity to boot the ball very far as if it were a goal kick, where possession is virtually up in the air.

Tackles/Change of Possession

It is OK to be tackled during your kickoff possession, as long as the ball does not get in complete possession of your opponent. For instance, if you are successfully challenged in which the ball is kicked back to your next closest player, this is still your possession. Even if the opponent steals the ball, and it is immediately stolen back, this is still your possession. Really, it is still your kickoff possession until the ball crosses the half-court line, or is in the hands of the opponents goalkeeper.

The Reverse Kickoff Goal

The Reverse Kickoff Goal is very similar to the normal Kickoff Goal. The Reverse Kickoff Goal is achieved when the opposing team successfully disrupts a Kickoff Possession in a manner that will allow possession for the opposing team. The team now in control of the ball is in a Reverse Kickoff Possession. The same rules apply to a Reverse Kickoff Goal, regarding the completion of the goal, and the ending of the possession. However, if possession of the ball is obtained by a Goal kick, or by the goalkeeper successfully saving a shot, there is no Reverse Kickoff Possession. This is because in these instances, players are reset to their formations, making the original Kickoff Possession over. The reverse kickoff goal is, in all honesty, quite lame. Anyone that executes one loses 12 minutes of their life, as well as all of their Funions and bean dip.

Jet Delivery Corporation is a leading same-day delivery and logistics company based in La Verne, CA.

History

Jet Delivery was founded on October 15, 1950, and then incorporated on April 7, 1953. Founder, James F. Zahner, raised the money he needed to start the company by selling a used Maytag washing machine earlier that fall. At the time, Jet Delivery resided on the corner of Venice Blvd. and Main St in Los Angeles, CA and operated a total of four vehicles - a 1932 Ford Model B, a 1934 Ford Sedan, an Indian motorcycle with a sidecar and a Cushman motorcycle.

Though the 1973 oil crisis was an economic strain for the United States, it provided Jet Delivery with a means to breakaway from other local couriers. This came through two channels. The first was the installation of three 10,000 gallon gas tanks at the E. 10th St. address. Since Jet Delivery was the only local courier that could provide their drivers with fuel anytime, they were practically unaffected by gas rationing in the mid-1970s. This allowed Jet Delivery’s drivers to drive for longer intervals, and farther distances than other competing companies’ drivers. The other channel was the conversion of gasoline powered trucks to propane powered trucks. The advantage of converting stake-bed and bobtail trucks to propane fuel was the abundance of propane in relation to gasoline. Since the heaver trucks were not very fuel efficient, it made it convenient for drivers to fuel their vehicles with propane anywhere and anytime without having to worry about the gas ration.

Prior to the Motor Carrier Act of 1980, Jet Delivery had primarily been labeled a local, same-day shipper. However, when President Jimmy Carter signed the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 into law on July 1, 1980, the deregulation of the routes and geographic regions motor carriers could serve gave Jet Delivery considerable new opportunities. Instead of only serving local businesses, Jet Delivery could now serve businesses on a national level. Thus, Jet Delivery became a nationwide, same-day shipper.

Two years after the trucking industry had been deregulated, a new vice president was appointed. After serving as a driver for one year, and then as a dispatcher for five years, Michael Barbata became vice president and company shareholder on August 25, 1982. Ten years later, on October 1, 1992, Jet Delivery purchased Crest Orbit Delivery Service, a Los Angeles based courier company established in 1946. The merger brought together two of Los Angeles’ oldest corporations and made Jet Delivery one of the largest same-day delivery companies in the Los Angeles Basin.

After the death of James F. Zahner in 1999, Vice President Michael Barbata bought Jet Delivery and became CEO. Shortly thereafter, the sales force started actively targeting logistics accounts, Information Technology spending was increased to 5% of the company’s revenue and partnerships were started with other United States based, same-day couriers. Those partnerships, coupled with the bigger Information Technology budget, eventually paved the way for Jet Delivery to efficiently pick up almost any package in the United States, and then deliver it to any domestic location in the same day.

In the spring of 2004, Jet Delivery outgrew the E. 10th St. Location in Los Angeles, CA and moved its headquarters to a 34,000 sq ft facility in La Verne, CA (the current location). The increased facility size allowed Jet Delivery to enter the warehousing market. At the same time, Jet Delivery also opened an office in the San Francisco Bay Area, which also has over 12,000 sq ft of warehouse space. Since 2005, Jet Delivery has averaged a 10% revenue increase each year.

Offices

La Verne, CA

Jet Delivery is headquartered in La Verne, CA. The facility is 34,000 sq ft in size and has multiple loading docks for trucks with trailers up to 53’ in length. All major systems and applications are run from this facility.

Hayward, CA

The Hayward, CA facility is 12,000 sq ft in size and has multiple loading docks for trucks with trailers up to 53’ in length. All data from the La Verne, CA office is continuously backed up to this location via VPN.

Agent Network

Jet Delivery started partnerships with approximately 700 other United States based, same-day courier companies in early 2001. This was done for several reasons. The first being that since Jet Delivery is southern California based, partnering with other domestic same-day couriers allowed Jet Delivery to service their local customers’ who needed anything picked up, and dropped off outside of southern California. These partnerships also allowed Jet Delivery to act as a brokerage house. That is, once the partnerships were established, Jet Delivery could essentially ship anything, to anywhere in the United States using only the agent network and flight data.

Technology

SmartShip

SmartShip is an algorithm developed in 2000, which returns both the cost and arrival time of any shipment. SmartShip uses the shipment’s origin and destination zip codes, along with various other parameters specific to the shipment (size, weight, hazardous, etc...), the Vincenty formula to find the geodesic between the two points and then returns travel time estimates along with a price.

SmartFlight

SmartFlight was developed in 2001, one year after SmartShip was released. The two algorithms are similar; however, the difference is that while SmartShip focuses on ground shipments, SmartFlight focuses on shipments traveling by air. In most cases when shipments travel by air, commercial flights will suffice; SmartFlight searches a database of all United States domestic flights and returns the top options for shipping any specific package. Once a flight is chosen, the dispatcher can immediately start coordinating with agents from the agent network to complete the shipment.

Mobile Website

Jet Delivery launched its mobile website, mobil.jetdelivery.com, in 2006. The site was built using Wireless Markup Language (WML) and Visual Basic Script (VBScript). It fully supports both quoting and tracking from any wireless phone or PDA that has a WAP browser.
