The Avenue at White Marsh is a 300,000 square foot open air mall located in White Marsh, Maryland south of White Marsh Mall.
History
The Avenue was developed as a town-center in a suburb without a center. Its design is drastically different from previous suburban malls and part of a wave of similar destination retail sites across the country. Construction on the Avenue started in 1996 and was completed in 1998 with stores opening to the public as they were ready. Federal Realty Investment Trust purchased The Avenue in early 2007.
Design
The concept for the Avenue at White Marsh was modeled in part after the Reston Town Center, which also blends office, residential, entertainment and retail components. The Avenue stores are situated on both sides, at the beginning, and at the end of a quarter-mile main street. The layout was planned to feel old-fashioned from the stone plaza to the architecture. The Avenue was criticized early on as a "street without a town."
Entertainment
A plaza is located at the center of the main street where regular entertainment can take place. Each year in November the Avenue at White Marsh along with White Marsh Mall sponsors a holiday parade that goes through the main street then over to the mall.

Patriot Place is built around Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. Phase 1 opened in the Fall of 2007. It is described as a "super regional lifestyle and entertainment center". It includes Circuit City, Bed Bath & Beyond, Christmas Tree Shops, Staples, and New England's first Bass Pro Shops. Phase 2 will include a 4-star hotel, and many other retail and dining outlets.
The Simcoe Panorama is a special event that occurs in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada (Norfolk County) during the month of December. During this time, there is a special vendor that serves taffy to the winter tourists and curious residents of the town. During the first night of lighting, fireworks are let off into the sky. In the past, American, British and Canadian flags were used in the festivities while the images of Jesus Christ near the little chapel remind us that Christmas is on the way. Due to budgeting reasons, the light display with the three national flags are no longer held. The lights are held in the same park where the Friendship Festival is held in the summertime.
At one time, the grandeur of the lights of the Panorama were roughly the equivalent of Niagara Falls but now that distinction is lost ever since Niagara Falls started to remain open year-round with the opening of the Casino Niagara. During the 2006 display year, a special section was held in the northwest corner of the park for superhero light displays, most notably Spider-Man.
