WORM is an acronym for What Obama Really Meant.

WORMs typically do not make sense, or simply are attempts to bait and switch.

History
2008-01-25 11:21: What Obama Really Meant (WORM) first appeared on the liberal blog Corrente: Boldly Shrill by member Vastleft. Vastleft describes WORM as a game played by three teams (Progressives, the Obama Fan Base (OFB), and the Grand Old Party (GOP)) and a special player called The Unifier who is to be "Teh Awesome" . The game proceeds such that The Unifier makes a "shockingly disempowering" statement every round, the Progressives challenge the statement, and the Obama Fan Base besieges the Progressives with every verbal tool except logic. The Progressives always lose the game and must wait another four years for Progress, the GOP wins, and "as a consolation prize, The Unifier offers Progressives 'hope,' which is practically as good as Progress, isn’t it?"

2008-04-12 18:04: Frank J. of IMAO nominated WORM for Acronym of the Year.

Examples of WORM
They Cling to Guns or Religion
Barack Obama originally stated:

And it’s not surprising get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

What Obama Really Meant:

Senator Obama has said many times in this campaign that Americans are understandably upset with their leaders in Washington for saying anything to win elections while failing to stand up to the special interests and fight for an economic agenda that will bring jobs and opportunity back to struggling communities. And if John McCain wants a debate about who’s out of touch with the American people, we can start by talking about the tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans that he once said offended his conscience but now wants to make permanent.
