The Cucuy cave is a solutional cave in South-Central San Saba County, Texas, 3.42 miles SSE of the city of San Saba. Cucuy (pronounced koo-kooee) refers to the Spanish term for boogeyman, a mythical, invisible, folk monster invoked by parents to keep children in line. Scratched in the rock is a warning in Spanish that the cave is the home to 'el cucuy.'
The entrance to the cave is a crevasse with an imposing 50+/- foot drop, then it transverses laterally to the North. The exact length of the cave is unknown, as poor quality of the air after several hundred feet prohibits full exploration. Because of the its location on posted, private property, few people get the opportunity to explore it or map its features.
The Texas Speleological Survey lists the cave as a "rumored cave" and is designated as SAB601 This cave is one of several caves in the area that the TSS has not been invited to explore.

The story received considerable media attention in the local area.
Jackson Baker
The murderer Jackson Baker, 20 years old at the time, was immediately convicted. He didn't have a history of violence and there was much speculation as to what the impetus of the crime was. The media casted blame on the angry music Baker had evidently listened to, including bands such as the Popscops.
