Jurickson Profar is the former Little League World Series hero from Willemstad, Curacao. His two-run home run in the 2004 Little League World Series Championship in Williamsport Pennsylvania helped give the small island their first title.
The very next year, Profar returned to Williamsport for a shot at defending the title. In the international championship game, he struck out 12 Japanese hitters, securing Curacao a spot in the 2005 Little League World Series title game against Hawaii. Trailing by one run in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Northwest representatives from Ewa Beach, Hawaii had the bases loaded with no outs. Number two hitter Myron Enos hit a ground-ball in the hole near short which Profar grabbed and fired home for the first out. The spectacular play by the Curacao captain gave the entire team a lift, and forced extra innings. Unfortunately for Curacao, they would end up losing in the 7th inning via a Micheal Memea walk-off home run.
Currently, the 16 year-old Profar is negotiating with a number of major league teams on a contract. On July 2nd, 2009, Profar will be eligible to sign with a major league club. There has been speculation of a deal already in place with the Texas Rangers worth $750,000.
Profar finished 12 for 34 in his LLWS career earning himself a potential spot on the All- Decade team.
With a fastball reaching as high as 78 MPH, Profar is one of only two players in Little League World Series History to shut out a team from Japan when he did so in 2005. The other is Aaron Alvey of Louisville, Kentucky who did so in the World Championship game in 2002.
Profar's brother, Juremi, helped the 2007 Pabao Little League team reach the International Championship game against Japan. Only 11, Juremi returned to Williamsport in 2008 and broke Randal Grichuk's record for career runs batted in.
