Philip Burley, full name Philip David Burley, is one of the two frontmen (along with Floren MacDonald) of the Cornish anti-folk band The Red Army. He is noted for appearing to suffer a seizure when playing a guitar riff, as well as for his strong vocals which are seen as a key factor in the critical acclaim received by the band so far. He is a professional composer and musician, and has become one of the most well known and respected anti-folk writers on the Cornish scene in recent years. He is due to enroll at Dartington College Of Arts to read Musical composition, though will notably remain partially based in Cornwall to promote his forthcoming record.
Early life
He was born in the village of St Day on September 28 1987, and attended schools in the area, learning much of the ways of the world. He attended Redruth School from 1999-2006, obtaining A Levels in Music, History and Drama And Theatre Studies. He also attended Truro College from 2006-2007, adding a fast tracked A Level in Politics to his qualifications.
Acclaim
In 2007, The Times newspaper called him "the most talented and certainly the most prolific" songwriter on the Cornish scene. In the same year, The West Briton declared his song 'Northern Lights' a "masterpiece".
Speculation
In June 2006 he received an unconditional offer to study Music Composition at Dartington College of Arts and is expected to attend the institution from September 2007 for a full three-year degree. It should be noted that he has commented on several occasions that his commitments with The Red Army will still remain priority.
The Red Army
The Red Army was formed on February 17 2004, when Burley joined forces with Florence MacDonald and Stephen Burley. At the time of writing, they have played over 200 gigs.
Musical style and influence
Burley considers himself an anti-folk artist, and is heavily influenced by Adam Green, Regina Spektor and Pete Doherty. His vocal style is often noted to owe homage to Morrissey, and his dramatic, heartfelt, metaphorical poetic lyrical style has clear links with both Morrissey and Bob Dylan. E.g: "It doesn't matter if I'm treading on thin ice, because I can walk on water"-'Northern Lights', The Red Army Some critics have labelled this aspect of his work pretentious and melodramatic, however, the best example of this is probably 'Northern Lights', a live favourite and one of his best known works. At the heart of Cornwall's anti-folk scene, Burley often talks about his "mission statement" to increase the scenes support, and is regarded by local acts as one of the scene's largest influences.
Sexuality
Burley's sexuality has always remained ambiguous, largely due to his frequent claims not to enjoy sexual intercourse. Despite this, Burley has been romantically entangled with a student named David Taylor since January 2007. Previous to this, he had a relationship with fellow bandmate Stephen Burley from 1990 to 2007, though this is noteably aparent in either songwriter's lyrical content. This is often claimed to be the origins of the pair's professional rivalry and strained working relationship.

She is a professional, classically trained singer and pianist, and is best known for her fractious relationship with her co-frontman Philip.
Early life
She was born in Portsmouth on September 20th 1987, and moved location several times, living in Scotland, Birmingham, Cornwall and other parts of the United Kingdom before eventually ending up back in Cornwall in 2000. The Red Army was formed on February 17th 2004, when MacDonald joined forces with Philip and Stephen Burley. At the time of writing, they have played over 200 gigs.
Musical Style And Influence
MacDonald's vocal technique, particularly recently, bears a lot of credit to anti-folk singer Regina Spektor. Her voice is often described as angelic, and her classical training is apparent in her technique. MacDonald has become much more of an evident songwriter in the past year, and although Burley still dominates the bands creative force, her expanse of new material could re-set the balance. For the moment, however, the majority of her songwriting credibility appears on co-written Burley/MacDonald tracks, particularly the critically acclaimed "Money Grabbing Scum".
Trivia
*MacDonald is noted for her enthusiasm for the work of Joanna Newsom.
*MacDonald has described herself as a philanderer.
*MacDonald claims to be unaware of punk music, despite composing anti-folk songs, a sub-genre of punk.
*MacDonald considers her mobile telephone number a hotline for musical and moral issues, and urges members of the public to ring her to "chat" about issues of all kinds.
*MacDonald's heroine and role model is Pippi Longstocking.

A phone system describes the type of telephone network used in business or network switching environments. Loosely, a system is a grouping of phones or devices (extensions) made to share common lines. Typically a system provides features and functionality geared towards multi line environments and well beyond what is found on a analog (house type) single line telephone.
Types of Phone Systems
Independent Keysets
Though not a true telephone system, Independent Keysets are often miscatagorized as such. They are not classified as systems because they lack key features such as switching and centralized communication.
Independent Keyset describes an analog multiline phone which is able to communicate with other sets plugged into the same line(s) over a proprietary protocol. The network of phones provides rudimentary system like functionality.
Key Systems
Key telephone systems are systems geared towards small business. Though traditionally key systems lacked some of the functionality present in PBX systems the migration of many features from (more expensive) dedicated hardware to (less expensive) software has blurred this distinction. For systems manufactured in the last ten years the terms Key and PBX are often used interchangeably. Key generally refers to smaller sized systems and PBX denotes larger systems.
Private Branch Exchange
The largest class of telephone system is the private branch exchange - or PBX. PBX's are used in large office environments and easily scale to hundreds of users. PBX is used to describe larger and more feature rich systems.
Telephone System Manufacturers
Nortel
Nortel Networks produces telecommunications and networking equipment. For the last 20 years Nortel has been a very prominent player in the SMB phone system market - in the past with their Norstar Meridian line of products, and more recently with their Integrated Communication Systems line and Business Communications Manager VoIP equipment. One of the prominent features of Nortel's products is the ability to reuse equipment; Nortel phones like the T7316e can be used with a large range of cabinets including last generation Nortel 616's and Nortel 824's, more recent offerings such as the Nortel CICS, and even cutting edge VoIP cabinets such as the Nortel BCM 400.
