"Tactile 3D" is an interface for organizing files on your hard drive by taking advantage of spatial positioning. It tries to capitalize on people's ability to recall the placement of a large number of stationary objects. Each object, a file or folder, gives visual and audible cues as to its content, and May Be user-positioned within the space.
Once inside the environment, it is possible to perform common file operations like move, copy, and delete. Moving a file is accomplished by grabbing the object, navigating to a different folder or position of your hard drive, and then dropping the file.
On the Tactile 3D site, there is a reference to Neuromancer, William Gibson's famous cyberpunk novel, in which hackers and a three-dimensional matrix cyberspace predominate.
